Angelina Jolie has captured people’s hearts after coming clean about her recent double mastectomy. The actress opened up about her decision to minimize breast and ovarian cancer in an op-ed piece written in the New York Times.
But we weren’t the only ones who found out about the actress’ heroic struggle on the Internet — her father Jon Voight, found out online too.
“My love and admiration for my daughter can’t be explained in words. I saw her two days ago with my son Jamie. We all got together for his birthday, with her and Brad,” he said. “But I didn’t know. It wasn’t obvious at all.”
He continued, “I found out this morning. I was as surprised as anyone and deeply moved by the way she’s handled this. She’s a very extraordinary person, the way she examined it and what she shared.”
Jon Voight also made it clear that he “understands” why Angelina Jolie wanted to keep this a secret until now. “I completely understand. I want the focus to be on the inspiration. She just explained to me and educated me on this stuff.”
Brad Pitt also came out with a statement regarding Angelina Jolie’s brave decision.
“Having witnessed this decision first-hand, I find Angies choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic,” Brad Pitt said. “I thank our medical team for their care and focus. All I want is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”
