American teens Chancey Luna, Michael Jones and James Edwards have been charged with the murder of Melbourne baseball player, Chris Lane.
Luna, 17, and Edwards, 15, have been charged with first degree murder and face life in prison. Jones, 17, was charged with using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact to murder in the first degree. While Luna and Edwards were denied bail, Jones‘ sits at $1 million.
“To those friends of ours in Australia, we would say to you this is not Duncan, Oklahoma,” District Attorney Jason Hicks said outside the courtroom. “This is not Stephens County, Oklahoma.”
The three boys spotted Chris Lane jogging in an upper-class area of Duncan on Friday. According to the court, they got a car, driven by Jones, and Luna shot Lane with a .22 calibre revolver in the back.
During the first court appearance Edwards and Luna showed no emotion. However, Jones broke down in tears.
